![]() ![]() ![]() Some of us still work in the trenches, with green bands, with guys that are really dedicated to their music and instruments but may not have those pro chops yet. BUT these guys are rare, hey if you are in a position where a majority of your clients are of this calibre then congratulations. They mix the goddman drums for you - great hat touch, they hit the hats a little harder on snare hits (in that good ratio), they tune their kits to perfection, some of them even tuning the resonance of the toms to a chord that has a relationship to the song! These guys are masters of their craft and you get their phone numbers for future session work cause they make your studio sound amazing (combined with your half decent skills). Yes, it is mostly about touch - when I get an amazing drummer in for a session, it just makes me look so good as an engineer. Great thread - a subject that has kept me searching for the holy grail for many many years.įirst thing I would like to mention is that we cannot be asking drummers to change technique / move position of kit / give them grief about their playing.
